My wife and I celebrated our 1 Year Wedding Anniversary two weeks ago and I decided to surprise her with something we haven’t tried before. I took her out for a nice dinner cruise at World Yacht over at Pier 81 in NY.
Some people may have tried this or a similar type of dinner cruise before, but I definitely wanted to share our experience there since it was such a great one. At the end of the evening we really did not have any complaints.

The Dinner Cruise on The Duchess:
Here is the description from the website since they didn’t skip a beat.
“World Yacht dinner cruises sail down the Hudson, around the tip of Manhattan, up the East River, under the world-famous Brooklyn Bridge and far enough north for guests to catch a glimpse of the pristine architecture of the United Nations. The ship then turns around and sets sail for the Statue of Liberty, then continues back up the Hudson to its Pier 81 dock. Other well‐known landmarks visible along the cruise include the World Financial Center and the shimmering art deco spires of the Empire State and Chrysler Building.”
What made what was described above even better was that while enjoying your dinner, they announced whenever we would get close to a certain landmark. That made it easy to enjoy dinner and not worry so much about if we were missing anything. It was nice to be able to go up to the top deck outside to get a great view and take great pictures
Convenience of getting there:
We drove into the city since I like being in control of my commute at all times. Getting there was fairly easy, considering I missed the entrance and got stuck in traffic for a little while after turning around. If you’re a frequent city-goer, it will be a breeze for you. If not, don’t worry because it’s not far after you get out of Lincoln Tunnel. I literally only needed to make 2 turns to get there after the Lincoln. Conveniently, there is a parking lot right there on the Pier, for a fee of $30.
The Boat and Venue:
Upon arriving, everyone there is very welcoming. The boat was very clean and elegant and definitely fit the feel for our anniversary. Tables were well placed not being too close to other people.
As far as music, The DJs were very good starting the night off with some classic R&B. They played what was current and relevant and as the night progressed, they played the more upbeat music so people can dance on the pretty big dance floor they had there. I was surprised to see how many people filled up that dance floor.
We had no complaints at all with the service. I was impressed with how they accommodated my request for a table by the window. When I booked online, I had entered it in to the notes section saying “This is our 1 Year can we please have a window seat?” Can’t beat that right?
We were taken care of by a gentleman named Joel. He was a key component to the smooth evening. We never needed anything since he was so attentive, and his personable approach made the dinner that much better. Whenever he was too busy, there was always assistance from other servers from the boat. They worked great as a team and event took the time to take our picture in the midst of them being busy.
The menu consisted of a chicken, a fish, and a Filet Mignon. There was a surf and turf special (lobster and steak) too. As far as drinks, they had all different kinds of wines, beers, and martinis. Please keep in mind that they don’t mention one thing when it comes to food. The Filet Mignon has an extra charge of $10 on top of what you have already paid for the night. Not a big deal, but I thought I’d let you all know to avoid the surprise. My wife is a Filet Mignon kind of woman and as much as I wanted to be different, I ordered the same thing. The steak was cooked to perfection exactly as we ordered it.
The dessert we chose was the chocolate ganache which was served nice and warm. This was another dish that we had no complaints about.
On Board Memories:
They provided a photographer that walked around to take pictures of the couples and parties. Towards the end of the night, he shows you his final product and gives you the option of buying what he put together for you for about $30. It was nice to be able to have a professional take some nice shots and provide you with a nice memory to bring home.
I must say our overall experience was amazing. It’s a nice way to not only be catered to with great service, but also have a nice scenery that doesn’t stay the same. Each time we looked around and out the window it was a different view of the city lights.
In all honesty the total evening can be pretty pricey but well worth it. Prices are up on the site, but plan on aiming to spend no less than $350 or so. Depending on how much you drink and add in all the extras, it’ll all add up.
If you ever end up checking it out, we hope you enjoy the experience as much as we did.
If you have any questions, please don’t be shy and comment. I love NY, but don’t go there enough, so if anyone has other recommendations, please comment with other suggestions.
